(Minneapolis, Minn.)  MMIC Technology Solutions, a member of the MMIC Group and an authorized reseller of the NextGen Electronic Medical Records system, recently named Family Practice Medical Center, of Willmar P.A. (FPMC) its official site to bring potential clients to learn more about the NextGen EMR. Located in west central Minnesota, FPMC is an independent single specialty clinic with eight physicians and three nurse practitioners.

FPMC installed both the electronic medical records system and the electronic practice management systems last year.  According to Gary McDowell, chief operating officer, FPMC has already benefited from its use by immediately inputing patient information in the chart as the patient is being seen. "As the needs and demands of the health care environment have changed, it became clear that the continued use of paper medical records wasn't practical. Moving to an integrated EMR system improves FPMC's patient care model for both the patient and staff," he added.

Dr. Michael Morris, clinic CEO, began using the EMR system with his patients in mid October 2003. "This type of system has many advantages for quality patient care. It provides immediate retrieval of current information and allows the physician to have at their disposal the patient's chart in the hospital emergency room and on call," he said. "Patients really appreciate the ability to have prescriptions faxed immediately from the EMR directly to their pharmacy."

MMIC Technology Solutions chose the FPMC as a demonstration site because of its size, history of quality health care and use of technology and willingness to share their knowledge with other clinics. "They see a large number of patients with different types of needs and will get full use of the complete EMR system," says Tom Lee, vice president of Technology Solutions.
