The SAFER Guides: Recommended practices to optimize the safety and safe use of EHRs

Description: Clinics, hospitals and post-acute care providers face challenges with electronic health records (EHRs) that can affect patient safety. This webinar introduces the Safety Assurance Factors for Electronic Health Record Resilience (SAFER) guides. This resource, first introduced in January of 2014, highlights strategies to improve safety related to EHR use and educates participants about ways to implement these guides in their organizations. All stakeholders have a shared responsibility to make sure that health IT is safely implemented and that it is used to improve patient safety and care.
- Explain what the SAFER Guides are and how they can be used to ensure safe EHR use.
- Describe the socio-technical model used to address challenges in design, development, implementation, use and evaluation of health IT.
- Identify potential solutions to implementation challenges at the individual, organizational and national levels.
